announcing Sophistication!

That’s just under two weeks away!

This time around, we’re going to re-engineer some things. We really want this launch to be smooth, but we haven’t quite got all the details figured out yet. We’ll keep you posted as we sort out all the kinks!

Can’t wait — this is going to be fabulous!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here’s hoping you all had a wonderful day, filled with feasting and fellowship!

We’ve had snow this week — highly unusual for our area and the time of year, but delightful nonetheless! It makes getting places difficult, but does it stop us sewing? Not at all!

the Hoku dress

Dear me, has it really been fifteen days since we last posted?  Oops…

Anyway, we’ve been busy, but we’ve at last put up all the information about the Hoku dress, a custom order we finished a while back.

In other news, we’re still hard at work on the upcoming holiday line! At this point, we’re aiming for a release date in early December, and we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as we get an official date the calendar!

Silk Chiffon

Silk is one of our favorite fibers here at Melody Valerie Couture, and recently we’ve ventured into the dangerous realm of silk chiffon (it’s apparently one of the most difficult fibers to sew!). All the work is worth it, though — it has a deliciously soft hand, and it drapes effortlessly across any surface. It’s also very diaphonous, so designers can get really interesting effects by stacking layers of it together (like this layered floral print).

Designers also get fabulous effects out of striped chiffon. This red dress, for example, has a skirt made from several layers of stripes — and the overall effect is quite striking! (And, if you feel really adventurous, you can also stack two stripes at right angles to each other and create a sort of plaid… gorgeous!)

This enchanting off-white dress shows another way to use a striped sheer: pleat it! This way, the skirt appears to be a solid fabric — but if you look closely, you can see where the pleats release at the bottom of the skirt and the original, striped fabric is visible!

So many possibilities, so little time…

exciting news!

Well, we’ve been busy around here (that’s why we haven’t posted very much!) but after some thinking, sewing and generally wrestling with mock-ups, we are pleased to announce that:

there will be a line of all-new garments for the upcoming holiday season!

We’re still working out when exactly we’ll launch (there’s still a fair bit of sewing to do) but we’re hoping to be ready for sometime just after Thanksgiving. And it’s going to be gorgeous — probably our best collection yet!

More details coming soon…

PS — thank you to everybody who’s commented recently on the dresses from past collections! We appreciate your interest, but sadly, since all our dresses are limited editions, they’re gone once they’ve sold out.
