Happy Thanksgiving!

We are very grateful for all of you, for the chance to do what we love, for the freedom to do it.

materials: inside “Dianne”

Hello again!

Time again to take a little ‘inside-the-dress’ tour for our current auction, “Dianne”. It has so many good features, it was hard to pick just a few for this post….

I wanted to start by bragging on these buttons a little bit. They’re antique Victorian rhinestone buttons, and simply gorgeous — lightly textured metal, brassy aged patina, and of course, a great bit of sparkle.

They’re a find from Sew Expo earlier this year — Nifty Thrifty Dry Goods  has lots of amazing things! I was thrilled to pick up these little beauties, and even more pleased when they worked so perfectly with this dress. (This pic also shows the silk ribbon details and super-tiny flat-felled seams hiding inside the dress — can you find them??)

I was also very pleased with the way the corset eyelets came out. Eyelets can be tricky to set correctly — but in this case, they went in beautifully. And how can you not love that rubbed, aged metal color?

Here’s a view of the corset laced up the back. It’s just so satisfying!

Last but not least, I wanted to show you the horsehair loop underneath the top hat. This is a trick I picked up from theater, and it’s super useful for making otherwise awkward and unwieldy hair pieces stick securely to your head. Just push a hairpin through each side of the loop, then turn the pin 90 degrees and push along the doll’s head to secure. It’s amazing how well it works.

Anyway, Dianne will be live until Saturday night — and if you wanted to bid, now’s your chance (it’s going for a song right now!)

Until next time,

Update: Dress #4 is coming…next week!

Hello all, and happy Friday!

We’ve been hard at work this week, getting the last dress in our Fall 2013 collection ready to go. It’s looking beautiful and we think you will love it (not to mention how great the sewing pattern will be…)

However, to really do this new design justice, we decided we needed to postpone the start of the auction by one week. So, instead of going live tomorrow, our last auction will start next

Saturday evening, Nov. 16th.

In the meantime, there should be a sneak peek coming next week — this last dress will be a doozy and we can’t wait to share it with you!

Until then,

Melinda and Melody
